IV Iron Therapy – Monoferric®

What We Offer

PIH provides IV iron replenishment with Monoferric®, a modern, highly effective iron formulation that allows full iron repletion in a single infusion for most patients.

Care is provided in a trauma-informed, compassionate setting, with nursing support, medical monitoring, and coordination of all prescription and insurance requirements.

Why IV Iron?

Many people experience debilitating symptoms due to iron deficiency, even when their hemoglobin is normal. Symptoms may include:

  • Persistent fatigue or energy crashes

  • Brain fog, memory issues, or poor focus

  • Shortness of breath or exercise intolerance

  • Restless legs

  • Hair thinning

  • Palpitations

  • Feeling cold or unwell despite adequate rest

Public funding currently requires anemia (Hgb < 100) for IV iron approval; however, evidence now shows that symptomatic iron deficiency without anemia can significantly impair quality of life. Our program fills this important care gap.

Why Monoferric®?

Monoferric® is a next-generation IV iron with clear advantages:

One-and-done dosing

Most patients receive full iron repletion from a single infusion — unlike iron sucrose, which requires 4–6 visits.

Rapid improvement of iron stores

Monoferric replenishes iron quickly, supporting higher energy, improved cognition, and better overall function.

Excellent tolerability

  • No test dose required

  • Very low reaction rate

  • Suitable for those who cannot tolerate oral iron or who have become ill with iron sucrose

Convenient and efficient

Ideal for individuals with chronic fatigue, POTS, long COVID, or limited capacity for multiple appointments.

IV Saline Therapy (POTS & Autonomic Dysfunction)

What We Offer

PIH provides IV normal saline infusions for individuals with POTS or other forms of autonomic dysfunction who struggle to maintain hydration and blood pressure orally.

Typical infusion: 1 litre of saline, often weekly or as clinically indicated.

Why Saline Infusions?

Saline infusions can help stabilize:

  • Dizziness or near-fainting

  • Tachycardia

  • Fatigue

  • Low blood pressure

  • Difficulty tolerating upright posture

  • Symptoms worsened by dehydration or heat

  • Crashes after minimal activity

For some patients, drinking adequate fluids is not enough to maintain blood pressure, especially during flares, heat sensitivities, menstrual cycles, or long COVID–related dysautonomia.

Why Choose PIH?

  • Accessible scheduling

  • Short wait times

  • No need to drive into central Edmonton

  • Calm, sensory-aware environment

  • Trauma-informed, compassionate staff
